The Kenya veterinary paraprofessional association (KVPA) was formed in the year 2011by a group of veterinary paraprofessionals in Nakuru County after the veterinary surgeons and veterinary paraprofessionals Act 29 of 2011 was passed. The association was officially registered in 2012 as an official body representing the welfare issues of the veterinary paraprofessionals countrywide. All along, members of association have fostered spirit of teamwork in a bid to address the constraints experienced in the industry. 

The Kenya veterinary paraprofessional association (KVPA) is a registered association with the registrar of societies to represent the veterinary paraprofessionals who has undergone a minimum of two years post-secondary education in Animal Health from recognized institutions in Animal health by the Kenya Veterinary board.
Kenya Veterinary Paraprofessional Association (K.V.P.A) was formed in the year 2012 by a group of veterinary paraprofessionals who felt that they needed a professional body to represent their welfare issues. This was after the veterinary surgeons and veterinary paraprofessional Act 29 of 2011 was passed.
Our mission is to represent the veterinary paraprofessional in the Kenya veterinary board as required by the Act while also addressing the welfare issues of the members.
Our vision is to be the future national leading Association for the veterinary paraprofessionals that will represent members in national and international levels in welfare and financial capacity.
  • Keeping the members of the association updated on the ongoing and upcoming activities in the Animal Health industry.
  • Organizing activities that will improve on the efficiency of our members who are the major stakeholders in the livestock industry
  • Bringing together veterinary paraprofessionals through meetings and social online platforms.
  • Sensitizing our members on the important issues affecting the livestock subsector that is through emphasizing on issues like animal welfare, professionalism and accountability.

To represent the veterinary paraprofessional in the Kenya veterinary board as required by the Act while also addressing the welfare issues of the members.

To be the future national leading Association for the veterinary paraprofessionals that will represent members in national and international levels in welfare and financial capacity.

Short term plans

  • Recruit more animal health professionals as members – basis of a strong and vocal association
  • Capacity build members by training on what is required of them by law. It is evident that most members have little or no knowledge at all about what is happening in the industry
  • Agitate for the rights of our members when it comes to issues to do with veterinary laws and regulations.

OUR OBJECTIVES

  • To promote the welfare of animals through the five freedoms of animal welfare that is There are the freedom from hunger and thirst; freedom to express normal behavior; freedom from discomfort; Freedom from fear and distress and freedom from pain, injury or diseases
  • To represent members and front their welfare issues as required under The Veterinary Surgeons and Veterinary Par-Professionals Act, Number 29 of 2011,hereinafter,the Act
  • To promote, safeguard and protect the health of animals, as defined under the above Act
  • To offer capacity building to livestock farmers, and other animal keepers where necessary, for the sake of promoting animal health and new technologies as a source of livelihood and food security.
